Frequently Asked Questions

What is Aged Care Quick Start ?

Aged Care Quick Start is an independent Australian website that provides concise information about aspects of aged care in Australia. Our initial focus is on residential aged care.

Where does the aged care information on the website come from?

Much of the information comes from Australian government department websites and publications, which we digest and from which we extract essential information.

For example, our sources include:

  • https://www.health.gov.au/our-work/star-ratings-for-residential-aged-care
  • https://www.agedcarequality.gov.au/

Note regarding aged care facility Room Prices and Descriptions:
The most recent government consolidated list of aged care facility room prices and room descriptions was issued in December 2022. We are currently awaiting an updated version of that document. In the interim, when we use that data, we increase the Room Prices by the amount of inflation (per the Reserve Bank) from December 2022 to the present.

Our website also provides a 'Tips and Traps' facility, where visitors can share their real life experiences of setting up residential aged care for themselves or for a loved one. Over time, as contributions are made, this will provide another source of aged care information. Of course, this information should be regarded as less authoritative than the government sourced information and you should be cautious in acting on any of the 'Tips and Traps' information alone. We recommend consulting with a lawyer and/or a financial adviser specialising in aged care, before entering residential aged care agreements.

Who can register on the site as a financial adviser ?

To register, financial advisers must:

  • Be a holder of an Australian Financial Services (AFS) licence or an authorised representative of an AFS licensee.
  • Satisfy the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA) requirements.
  • Have undertaken training in aged care financial advice, with a recognised education and training organisation.
  • Be a member of one of the recognised industry associations for financial planners and advisers.

What Aged Care Quick Start does not do

The Aged Care Quick Start website does not provide personal financial advice. We facilitate the linking up of visitors with specialist aged care financial advisers, so visitors can engage them and receive aged care financial planning and advice services tailored to their needs.

All the information provided on Aged Care Quick Start is general in nature. For visitors to the site who have specific or complex financial planning questions, we recommend that the services of a financial adviser be engaged to address those needs.
